Natsume Yuujinchou

this has to be in my top favorite shoujo mangas ever. it’s sad, funny, and there’s an anime!

the story follows the book of friends that is a collection of numerous youkai‘s signatures and gives the owner of the book the power to control all those youkai. then natsume, who can see youkai, inherits the book from his grandmother who was notorious for defeating youkai back in her day. when he was younger his parents died and forced him to be moved from relative to relative and each of them ended up not liking him because he could see youkai. after moving with the fujiwaras who are kind and let him live with them, he starts to meet youkai and gets to know them more

it’s a touching story and the art in the manga is a little bit messy but i just love this so definitely check it out

Keishichou Tokuhanka 007

sorry for not posting in so long but it’s just been hectic…

anyways, this is an amusing josei manga with a strong female character, a bit of supernatural power mixed in, and of course romance

fuyuki is a 17-year-old bishoujo who has esp abilities. when she gets transferred to the “special crime department 007” she gets paired up with the mysterious bishounen detective named kuze. together they start solving cases and it just shows their crazy personalities.

this is a very fun story and you’ll fall in love with all the characters. the art on the cover might seem a little hard to deal with but the art in the actual manga is pretty good so just try it

Happy Asian New Year!

i’ve had my hands full with leaning, cooking, going to the temple, and studying for finals for the last few days and so the day is finally here!

since it’s a special holiday, here are a few mangas/animes that have a few asian new year scenes or episodes:

-fruits basket episode 9

-Shugo Chara Doki! episode 64

sorry, i could only remember two. expect lots of updates throughout the week because i’ll probably get distracted while studying for finals ūüėČ

Sengoku Strays

man, i love historical-shoujo mangas. and here’s agood one that has a totally badass heroine who beats up guys using either a wooden sword or even a hoe.

the story is about kasane who is your average high school girl but she’s also really good at kendo. one day when she saves her brother from getting run over by a truck, she grabs on to a sword and gets transported back to the warring states era. after a few things happen and she saves a group of prisoners from a castle using her skills, she gets caught up with Oda Nobunaga‘s rise to power. (for those of you who have no idea what i’m talking about, nobunaga basically started the unification of japan in the 1500s and was a military guy so he conquered a lot of japan). then everything gets pretty entertaining when she gets pulled into all the fights and gets involved with revolts.

the art is really good, you’ll love kasane, and the story is amazing so definitely check this out

TISTA

this is for the people who like action, gore, and shounen stories.

it’s about this girl named Tista Lone who by day is just a plain looking girl with good grades and not that many friends. But in actuality she’s Sister Militia, a notorious assassin with special eyes that can see a target whether it’s moving or not and kill with a single bullet. (how cool is that?) she’s an assassin working for the church to kill criminals and it just shows her day to day life a bit.

warning: very sad. i don’t want to spoil the story but it’s sad. the art is more graphic novel art than regular manga art.

i totally recommend this for those who want a good action read

Ibara no Okite

this is a really sweet and sad shoujo because it’s so sweet and i cried at some moments but i loved it

it’s about this really unfair world where social status is what dominates your life. then there’s “the demon king’s” castle where the master of the castle is an orphan and took over when he was young so now all the butlers have control. there’s also a rule that whenever the master walks by, all the servants have to face the wall and never look into his eyes or at his face. (geez, prejudiced much?) priscilla is a maid at the castle and on her day off, she meets the master of the castle himself but actually he turns out to be just a regular guy. then the trouble starts

the art is gorgeous and the story is really good. plus, it’s kinda short if you just want a quick read so definitely check this out

Yukimura Yuni also wrote this adorable oneshot that i absolutely love. it’s about a witch and how she’s not as bad as witches are supposed to be. then she takes on a job to wake up the prince. it’s really cute so read this too

Jormungand

for all those who like intense fighting and a strong female character who is funny and a bit insane, you’ll like this.

it’s about an underground arms dealer and her group of accomplices who are all colorful characters. then a new member joins her group and he’s just a little kid and hates guns. the story follows their dealings around the world and it’s a good read.

the art is good, the characters are awesome, and the fighting scenes are amazing so read this!

Ah! Itoshi no Banchousama (Dear School Gang Leader)

this manga is a mix of shoujo and shounen but it’s really fun to read when you’re bored.

Hayaka was just a regular girl when her parents got divorced and now she and her mom have moved to anew town to make a fresh start. (it isn’t another story about ghosts in the countryside) To make things easier for her mom, she decides to go to an industrial high school. When she arrives she finds that the school is filled with delinquents who always get in fights and that there aren’t any other girls in the school. Then she becomes friends with the school’s strongest fighter and other colorful characters and after a lot of things happen she becomes the school gang leader of the school.

the art is nice, the story is cute and full of humor so if you want a few laughs then try this one

Nobara no Hanayome

here’s another cute shoujo with a storyline that is pretty similar to wild ones but read this anyways

it’s about a girl named chizuru whose mom borrowed a hundred million yen then skipped town. just when she’s about get into trouble, kuze who’s the third heir to the umegaki gang shoulders the debt for her and in return she has to be his fiancee. and so she has to pretend in school, go through spartan training, and deal with all the other weirdos that she meets and it’s a really cute manga.

The art’s gorgeous, there are cute romantic moments, if you like shoujo mangas you’ll love this

the mangaka also wrote two other oneshots and they’re both adorable:

The Honeybee Earl and the Flower Dress

Moujuu wa Ori no Naka

Shounen Hakaryuudo

this is a shounen/josei/shoujo manga that i fell in love with just last night

it’s about how in this world there are nymphes and since there’s this legend that says nymphe wings give you happiness some people became nymphe hunters. in order to protect the nymphe, the a conservation group was created. ren, a guy who looks like a girl, is a nymphe hunter out for¬†vengeance¬†and happens to meet ciel, a conservation member, on a ship. A lot of things happen and they start to travel with each other but both have dark pasts. it’s got a lot of ¬†humor and if only ren were a girl it would e the perfect shoujo ever

the art’s great and the story has colorful characters so read it! you’ll get caught up in the story

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

this is a cute shoujo and i can completely relate to the main character so i absolutely love it

it’s about a girl named shizuku who only liked to study but then she meets haru, the infamous student who had a fist fight at the beginning of school and had been absent ever since. when her teacher asks her to deliver some papers to haru, which was the first time she’d seen him, he’d gotten into another fight. Afterwards, he asks if she’s a “spy from the school” and after a weird conversation, he starts treating her like a friend. Then she realizes that he really isn’t as bad as the rumors say he is (not that she cares that much anyways) and the story just follows their friendship and how she starts to like him and a bunch of other stuff happens.

if you’re wondering about the cover of the first book, it is just a regular shoujo and the whole collar thing is just a¬†figurative and symbolic thing. there’s lost of humor, the art is great, and you’ll fall in love¬†with¬†the characters

anyways, i love the story and it gets updated every 1-3 weeks which is great so if you’re not desperately to finish all your winter break homework like i am, read it

Taiyou no Ie

this is a really cute and sad shoujo so if you don’t want to cry your eyes out then laugh because mao has such a cute character, skip this one.

the story follows mao and when she was younger, her parents hadn’t gotten along and divorced so the only place she was happy was when she was with the Nakamura family. One day, the parents of the Nakamura family passed away in an accident so all the siblings had to move to stay with other relatives. (i hate stories like that! *natsume yuujinchou*) now she’s in¬†high¬†school and one of the Nakamura siblings, Hiro, is now an office worker (?) and when he dad remarries, she decides to stay with Hiro and it gets really cute and it’s a good ¬†read.

all the other works by Taamo are really good to so read them too! here’s a list:

Wagahai wa Yome de Aru

Shoujo no Melancholy

Onegai, Sensei

Koi Tsukiyo no Himegoto

Isshoni Ofuro (cute oneshots, nothing perverted if you’re wondering about the title…)

Hatsukoi Rocket

Ano Ko to Boku no Ie
